I got pulled over by police when I was in the US because I was riding a bike. To play devil’s advocate slightly, I was riding a crusty old Walmart BSO and I look like a scruff, and the town has a major homeless methhead problem so assumptions were made, but it still took them a while of talking to me to comprehend that I am happy to continue riding my bike, once they had at least figured out that I’m not a homeless methhead.

Use Heroic launcher for Epic games, it works great for everything I’ve put through it (including anti-cheat riddled stuff like GTA5 and Fall Guys). Heroic also supports GOG games. Lutris does the rest but can be a bit hit and miss compared to Steam/Heroic.

You’re 100% right. Linux itself is perfectly capable for a lot of users (note I didn’t say all users, or even most users, before people start coming at me with their weird edge case that requires Windows) but the community of both users and devs do absolutely nothing good to get people on board.

Acktually a fair few counties in the US have gone bankrupt building car-centric infrastructure, because it’s ruinously expensive and doesn’t even come close to being covered by the taxation they put on cars. Mass transit and bike infrastructure costs are miniscule in comparison and sometimes even actively gain money.

Wasn’t there also very recently a whole thing about the single guy who maintains the NTP spec threatened to retire so he could get a “real” job, which caused a gigantic internet-wide panic as pretty much everything we do relies on computer’s clocks being perfectly synced?

Heroic is amazing. Rather than running the crappy Epic client via Wine, you just install this native piece of software that then launches each game via Wine/Proton/whatever else and pretty much just works every time, complete with things like EAC

Curious how they expect this to work for people who aren’t even “paying” [with money or data] Meta users. Those people who never signed up for any of their services yet are still being tracked across websites via those social sharing buttons and the like. Are they supposed to pay Meta to not hoard their data from all the other websites, despite never setting foot on a Meta site?

Is “Hey Siri, skip this track” really any better than just, reaching up and tapping your earphone?

That’s awesome, never heard of this! I was referring to the stock Fairphones, which are absolutely Google-filled. But if someone is reselling them with all that crap stripped then that project is for sure worthy of recognition.

Their mission is amazing but I’m not going to sit here and pretend any Google-laden Android isn’t also ad-laden.

Out of curiosity, how does this work with an external display? Does your HDMI/DisplayPort out go via the dGPU, or is it still done in the same way?

I’ve been dailying it on my desktop for a couple of years now (I want to say since 2022 but I forget exactly… there was a Plasma release where a certain feature finally became realised on Wayland and I switched then). Been running on my laptop for much longer, where I use GNOME. It’s been great, but I don’t have any Nvidia hardware.

As for the existence of such “safety” videos, the ones I’ve seen have all been jokes because the insist heavily on following the law, especially government-funded videos. Breaking road laws written for motor vehicles is, in many situations as a cyclist, the safest course of action, but I’ve yet to see any safety video address this.

Yeah, I think we’re in agreement for the most part here too. I’ve even seen “cycling safety” videos put out by car companies and you can imagine the sort of nonsense they come out with!

Obviously it depends entirely where you live and what laws you have, but where I am most of the rules we’re supposed to follow as cyclists do make sense and are relatively safe guidelines. The issues come because drivers think the rules don’t say what they do (common example: there’s nothing stopping cyclists in a bunch riding however many abreast they can, and nothing stopping a single cyclist from taking the lane rather than hugging the curb, but many drivers feel that this is illegally holding up traffic/being unsafe). I wish we had things like Idaho Stop laws, I’ve ridden in states that allow this and it really does help a lot of situations.
