I’ve never heard of this insult before, but it’s fucking great
Would be great to have a body that wasn’t prone to malfunction and degradation at every single opportunity… But yeah I guess that government stuff should be fixed too
“Honey, I accidently digested our SD card again”
I’m just skimming this thread, but paragraph 2 is basically fact. I’m on my second synology box, the UI is simple and I want reliability, I don’t want shit to break because of a git push on some bullshit tool. But recently I snatched a Lenovo server and threw proxmox and Debian on it, and also got a vps.
The synology is actually pretty capable, especially if it can do docker, and if you are willing to venture into (as a beginner) copy/pasting commands from the internet into the task scheduler as a half-assed way to get at the terminal, it can do literally everything that I want. But I’m a geek, why should I keep a stable, reliable system as my only machine? :p
My synology does files, some docker stuff. Lenovo does a couple docker stuff, BOINC since it’s just idling most of the time, and docker for game and related hosting on my vps. Hell, this entire thing could be ‘just add a network folder, and install docker and dockge/portainer’.
Though (paragraph 3) I tried and didn’t like TrueNAS. Maybe it’s because the synology does it already, I was just exploring, but it has that ‘foss feel’ where you have no idea what you are doing, even when you know what all the pieces do, and it just kinda is like ‘here you go, figure it out’ and leaves. I remember the UI being equally… ‘designed by a programmer’ let’s say. It might be powerful but oof, slick it ain’t.
You see, like, wolves eat meat, and they are masc as fuck. You ever seen a gay wolf? Wait no don’t look tha- screaming in terror

Horrible day to have eyes
You are just self-important
Why you looking in a mirror tho?
Nothing important would be lost if yt shut down tomorrow. If all these income-driven ‘creators’ left due to lack of income, returning yt to just self-made videos instead of having budgets in the 5 and 6 figure range, again nothing would be lost.
I am clearly a genius from your perspective though; that’s the only logical statement you’ve made. Congratulations! Maybe some day you will be of comparable brainpower. 🎉
Hey wait, this is monopoly money!?
Google can axe YouTube to stop the bleeding aaaaaanytime they want. And creators can go back to working 9-5 aaaaaanytime they want, too.
When G bought YT, it was clear as day that the site was unprofitable. G bought it anyway. Now they are like ‘but it’s too expensive whaaaaaa’. Bed, sleep in, all that.
Now, for about a third of my subscriptions, I either buy merch or am on their patreon. Some are, amazingly, still there just because they like making videos (no direct monetization), and others I watch their vids but they don’t give me enough reason to financially pitch in.
But you can’t be like ‘oh yt is just some scrappy startup that will fail without your help, you’re killing a platform’. And even the biggest creators out there, I think they are a fucking moron for literally basing their livelihood on a website - run by G, of all companies. gestures to the g graveyard
Not my issue, not my problem. And I’m sure as fuck not going to feel bad about it.
Gotta make the most of it, go back for seconds, thirds…

Collectively: “why would we upgrade just one generation?”
Like, sure, I have a Threadripper 1st and 2nd gen. I’m weird like that. I have a VII and a 7900 XTX. But the 7xxx is fine. I went from TR 2950X to the 7800X3D. Do I want more cores? Fuck yeah. Am I going to pay thousands of dollars for a modern high-core TR? Lmfao no.
If I was building a new machine for someone, sure, 9xxx. But shit, even a 3xxx in my network is still kicking ass. Why the hell would I upgrade when I don’t want to? And the 7xxx is cheaper and - mostly - offers the same performance.
Drop the price if they want to sell more, simple as that. And don’t expect upgrades every release family.
