The last few companies I’ve worked for have been Dell/Mac shops - so Im not the best to debug what’s going on with Lenovo. A strange configuration for the hard disks is the most likely culprit. Id poke around your UEFI/BIOS and see if you have a raid or other silliness.

If you can upload a photo of what your disk configuration is, we might be able to get you pointed in the right direction.

Is this a desktop or laptop? If it’s a laptop is it a dell? Dells tend tend to do this janky raid 0 thing that nothing outside of the Dell OEM windows image supports. You can change it in the system config (F2 during boot).

I’ll be very honest with you. It’s not fancy, it’s not snazzy computing. It’s simple, designed with a graphical interface in mind, and a good operating system for someone who A) does not know Linux, or B) does not want to fiddle.

That’s just…sad.

I’ve interviewed candidates for system admin jobs who had less exposure to managing Linux then this story.

Not dissimilar - my three steps.

1. Ran away from vista.

See you think that - but excel finds a way. We have what are lovingly called the “spreadsheets of doom” which accounting uses to manage all forecasts, and the bits that involve money flows. Did you know you can hook excel into Salesforce and pull all the sales records? A person who thinks her monitor is her computer (she has a Dell laptop) somehow found a way…

Switch to Linux but you have major paradigm you need to pick. Do you want your computer to be bleeding edge but it be a hobby? Or do you want slightly older and rock solid? Or do you have an enterprise support contract? You only pick Ubuntu/RHEL if you have the last one.

As a DINK household where both are tech workers - you have hit the nail on the head. We both can get visas to jist about anywhere in the western world with little to no difficulty, so for us it comes down to quality of life and salary. Sadly European salaries are so far depressed from our “normal” ( I make no illusion, we are well paid) take-home salary, that considering relocating across the globe is not currently a worthwhile headache.

I beg to differ. Wood phone cases hide the bump by increasing the total thickness of the phone and making the back nice and flat.
