My kid discovered that he can hit the “report” button on the YouTube app on the TV to skip the ads immediately. So now every ad gets reported as “inappropriate”.
I’m proud of him.

There may be a thin cloud layer or two on Jupiter you might enjoy.
Anyone in need of a DIP socket compatible breakout module with a microcontroller emulating a Z80? That doesn’t sound too hard to design and build.
Sugar. It’s the metric fucktons of sugar.
Yeah at some point, you want to do work on your computer, not work on your computer.
Why did you mention Debian twice?
“./configure”
“error: libblahblah1.0.0-2 not found”
downloads tarball
“tar –xvzf libblahblah1.0.0-2.tar.gz”
“./configure”
“error: libblahblah1.0.0-2 depends on libgofuckyourself.2.0.0”

I often feel this way about my own code. Yeah I wanna share but…I don’t want to get torn apart by 10x developers. There’s a lot of things I’m ashamed of.
That’s the thing, she’s getting tired of having to do all that bullshit and then getting a lot of it reverted during an update. The annoyances are starting to outweigh the convenience. She’s not dumb, she knows her way around computers and is well aware of methods to disable this crap.
I’m just here waiting for my wife to finally snap and ask about getting Linux on her gaming PC. I’ve been using it for 20 years now. The complaints are becoming more and more numerous these days, it’s only a matter of time.
Nope. Guess again.
It was canceled because of budget issues and also the fall of the USSR itself. USSR wasn’t really doing too hot at the time, economically. Not because it was dangerous. It was obviously proven space-worthy.
I guess it’s not great for things requiring domain knowledge. Programming seems to be easy for it, as programs are very structured, predictable, and logical. That’s where its pattern-matching-and-prediction abilities shine.
I heard a good comparison on here a while ago: Github is to Git as Pornhub is to porn.
AI is helping me learn and program C++. It’s built into my IDE. Much more efficient than searching stackoverflow. Whenever it comes up with something I’ve never seen before, I learn what that thing does and mentally store it away for future use. As time goes on, I’m relying on it less and less. But right now it’s amazing. It’s like having a tutor right there with you who you can ask questions anytime, 24/7.
I hope a point comes where my kid can just talk to a computer, tell it the specifics of the program he wants to create, and have the computer just program the entire thing. That’s the future we are headed towards. Ordinary folks being able to create software.
I dunno, Stallman, it’s been 30 years, you got something for us?
It was awesome back when during the install you could just select “LAMP”, and a full stack web server suite would be automatically set up and configured correctly out of the box. But those days are long gone.
