Beyond actual semiconductor manufacturing costs, there is a lot of other operational overhead (that is also subject to inflation). This basically puts a floor on dGPU prices.
A NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT cost me around $250 in 2004. But the real price in current dollars would be $420.
