That’s the beauty of the Fediverse, it is what you make of it. Curate it however you like, and let others curate their own experiences how they like. Liberals, neocons, paleo-cons, communists, anarcho-capitalists, ancoms, apolitical folks, there’s a place somewhere on the Fediverse for every flavor.

You know this is the Fediverse, right? You have the power to make your corner of it into whatever you want. There’s nothing forcing you to be federated with lemmy.world or kbin.earth, just as there’s nothing stopping you from exclusively interacting with lemmygrad. The Fediverse is whatever you make it, and everyone has the right to make their corner into whatever they want.

gestures around Products as a service in general isn’t needed, but it’s done anyways. Single player games don’t need to be always-online and subscription-based. Same with movies. Same with cars. But in the world we live in, everything is becoming X-as-a-service. In this case, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if they purposely built in a chip that would disable or otherwise limit the battery unless the purchaser client continued paying the subscription fee.

Don’t know how it’s going to go for you, but Mint has been going really well for me gaming-wise on an Alienware with Nvidia RTX. Pretty much all the Steam games I care about work, and all my Blizzard games through Lutris. All through simple GUIs, and if you like the Windows feel and setup, there’s a Windows 10 theme you can try out, and tutorials on how to get a Windows style mouse cursor too. Again - all up to you, but it worked really well for me and is amazingly customizable. Just… remember to do Timeshift backups regularly, just in case. You never know if you’ll need one.

Honestly with enshittification “technological dystopia” sounds like exactly where we already are. Now, if only implants weren’t being R&D’d by Muskrat and there were some open source non-invasive version…

From what I remember, AI facial recognition tech was already being used by police and agencies worldwide, like the FBI, PRC police etc, or am I misinformed? I remember something about Chinese and American facial recognition software.

Honestly, with the way geopolitics is going right now, outright deglobalization sometime this century seems inevitable. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the current tensions turn into de facto Cold War II, with regional blocs that outright ban any trade or positive discourse about the other side, and hold high profile hearings on dissidents suspected of following the ideology of the other side.

The problem is that “they” live in the same world as you. Which means that you’d be going right down with them, along with all your loved ones. Is that really what you want?

Nobody is saying to shut down any instance, only that we, and others on the platform who think likewise, would like to not have to see those instances. Nobody is saying to shut down Truth Social or Pawoo or Baraag, for instance, despite having severe disagreements with those instances - we just decided, on our instances, not to federated with them. You aren’t obligated to agree with us - you can make your own instance with your own rules, as others have said, or switch to an instance accommodating to your beliefs. But at the same time, it doesn’t mean the rest of us have to listen. Think of defederation like blocking - I’m sure you have some sort of block list for trolls, spammers and bots. Same thing, but for an instance.

Give me a launch order, and I’ll EMP this entire planet back to the stone age. Easy and semi-permanent regulation for the next few millennia.
