Ah, I’ve made a few things in my time and I tend to look at price of a thing through the lens of whether it does what I need it to and if I could build it cheaper myself. Do you mind if I ask what you would call a fair price for a device like this, and which features you absolutely could not do without if you were to buy one?
I find this appealing too, but it’s because for my use case the e-ink screen is non-negotiable. This would be a replacement for paper notebooks and scratchpads. To be honest if you don’t need the power efficiency and natural-light readability of e-ink, on a tablet-sized screen, I don’t understand why you’d be tempted by this at all. What am I missing?

No, it is not. Copyright law ensures the original creator gets paid for their work and nobody can imitate it (quite literally “the right to copy”) without permission. Copyright law is about making money.
Heritage law is about preserving history.
Ehh, I halfway agree, but there is value in keeping historical stuff around. Heritage laws exist in a good number of countries so that all the cultural architecture doesn’t get erased by developers looking to turn a quick buck or rich people who think that 500 year old castle could really use an infinity pool hot tub; there are strict requirements for a building to be heritage-listed but once they are, the owner is required by law to maintain it to historical standards.
I only halfway disagree because you’re right, forcing people to pay for something has never sat right with me generally. As long as the laws don’t bite people like you and me, e.g. there are relatively high requirements for something to be considered “culturally relevant” enough to preserve, I’d be okay with some kind of heritage system for preserving the internet.

So, four stops over two days - that’s reasonable, that’s what I’ve got with my gas car which gets me there Sunday evening if I leave Saturday morning, in time to start work Monday. More stops means I get in later and have less time to get settled, or maybe I can’t make the trip in two days at all, so no trip.
Uh, if you look at the top of the thread, blacklazor just said there are downsides to EVs in response to a post that made it sound like it’s all upside. They’re not “going through a lot of contortions”, they’re answering questions in good faith. They don’t have to have driven an EV to know it won’t work for their situation, and they detailed why.
Me, I want an EV, I just don’t have the money and I need at least 300 miles of range before having to charge. It’s not “range anxiety”, I do long road trips annually so I need to drive that far on a single charge no matter what my fuel is.
If you don’t want an EV don’t buy one.
