  • I mean, there is still kind of a point being made with respect to monetization of social media… something which is insanely controversial on Mastodon.

Bring up something more minor like showing ads to cover server costs and it’s like tossing a grenade in and shutting the door.

  • Swarms of bugs make it a lot less enjoyable, at least for me. There’s nothing like seeing someone’s back entirely covered in mosquito bites just because it rained a couple days earlier. I’ve read it’s only expected to get worse with the progression of climate change, especially when it comes to invasive species.

I guess there’s DEET and permethrin, but I don’t feel great about having to use those.

  • It’s probably going to be a bit more like Diablo/borderlands where the campaign was fine but I have absolutely no drive to replay it on higher difficulties. I’d imagine people who are in the same boat will check out the next content drop with the elseworlds Joker stuff and gauge future interest based on that.

I think that’s supposed to come out in about a month?

Also, I wish Sony and Microsoft reported player counts for their respective consoles. Having player data for 1/3 platforms isn’t very helpful, IMHO.

If they hold up on their promise for an offline patch, the AI holds up well enough that it’d be ok (not great) as an offline single player game.

  • It’s possible. It’s definitely a game that asks a lot of the player to get immersed in the underlying story. Lots of relatively dense philosophical excerpts to read in the terminals. That’s on top of lore-related text to read which really fleshes out the pretty dark story they’re telling. Then there are the puzzles which might not be everyone’s thing.

The second game improves this greatly by moving the majority of the story out of text and into voiced dialogue with NPCs and a few cutscenes. The jump from the Serious Sam engine to UE5 is pretty mind-blowing in terms of graphics. I think there’s going to be a third one, as well?

If the game can’t suck you in, I’d at least recommend looking up the story. It’s pretty neat.

  • Aside from obvious ones like Baldur’s Gate 3…

Talos Principle 2 is fantastic from start to finish and makes you feel smart. I’d say playing the first one is a must in order to really enjoy it. The dlc, Road to Gahenna, is skippable. Most people I’ve talked to find they already own the first one somehow and just never got around to playing it.

Viewfinder was also good but felt kind of short. It’s priced fairly, though, so it’s worth a try.

Ghost Trick was really really good on the ds, not sure how well it translates to pc but the reviewer liked it. Some part of its charm was the interaction with the stylus. If it goes on sale, absolutely pick it up.

Someone pointed out the difference in active user counts, too. 2012 Reddit had ~43 million active users. Lemmy has an active user count somewhere around 60-90 thousand.

Point is, if you’re a dev looking to recoup some target cost, you’d be looking at a way smaller and riskier user base than the one that Sync saw on Reddit.

Edit: I didn’t even notice the dev essentially says that here https://lemmy.world/comment/2017279

It’s priced in a way that allows me to work on this full time. If Lemmy suddenly had 10X users I could bring the pricing down.
