Must have been Lee Scratch Perry. Not a song, a handful of tapes played over and over and.
But I run a summer festival on linux!
Our media servers are W7 (!) but I access them with VNC. And lots of screens/beamers here are on PI computers.
…then of course we need a windows laptop for the wireless mics, for the FoH configuration, the videowall, stuff like that. Mails and docs are google anyway, remote access is teamviewer.
I can’t run it all on linux, even if I sit at a linux computer the most.
Why do you think Immutable Distros are all the rage these days? Beyond deleting shit, there’s always Fucking Up shit.
I built an entire theatre using Linux. Architect was on autocad, that was alright, but engineering was on vectorworks & there I had to ask for .dxf exports.
Qlab (macos) is 100% a no-go, I actually own a macbook just for this piece of software.
Isadora runs on wine, but video play is problematic. Isadora is a video mapper/VJ/mixing software.
Of the big three of lighting console software, only Chamsys’ MagicQ runs on Linux. Infuriating when you know Grand MA consoles are linux-based. ETC? Don’t ask.
It’s niche (how about Enttec or DMXKing interfaces configurator?) but it’s my niche. I survive doing things differently, and, yes, owning a dual-boot AsahiLinux/MacOS device.
That you can “do everything that windows does”. You can’t. You can do similar things, you can do different things, you can do basic things, yes, but Linux can’t do everything that windows does.
disclaimer: on linux since 2006
Yes, a catastrophy. I never had lenses degrade so fast, and we’re talking expensive Zeiss stuff with medical coverage.
That was my first “no” here, never again.
Next time ask your lenses without. Mines are the same, I have a new prescription & just told the shop “no”. No anti-blue, no ant-reflection, no nothing, just the hardest material available.
Indeed. If whatsapp isn’t on the list, then I have all the confirmation I need.
Not Ketchup.
On a des valeurs en Belgique. Surtout sur l’assaisonnement des frites, la hauteur du col de mousse de la biere, et le caractère optionnel d’un gouvernement de plein exercice.

In Belgium: Tartare or Mayo. Andalouse for the gal, thanks
In the UK: Salt and Vinegar
In both cases: I will have to change seat if you plop yourself in front of me with your poor fries inundated by ketchup. Only the French do that, and it is a Casus Belli in my book.
That what I do is easy and that I’m “just pushing buttons”. Yeah, I’m pushing the right button at the right time because the whoke shebang has been program’d, cued, mixed over weeks of rehearsals so that, come show time, it’s all by magic. Magic of pushing the right button at the right time while also reading the brochure, watch the stage, issue cues to other dept sometimes in 2 different languages.
Easy peasy!
An AUR package has been done for Arch by (supposedly) someone who knows what they are doing and needs it on their Arch Machine
A Flatpak is something done by someone, to (supposedly) work everywhere, untested on Arch, that may or may not work. And crash (Ardour on Asahi). Or waste hours or you life to render files incorrectly (kdenlive on arch and asahi).
Native versions work perfectly.
I thought I was clever in using arch/aur for everything, but pull KDE or QT apps from Flatpak to keep my gnome install a bit more tidy… For this, you’d have to have those Flataks to work, and sometimes they don’t.
We used to meet for beers at any time of the day. Or night.
Having tea or coffee anytime past 10am is a sure sign of deliquescence of both body and mind I believe - and I should know since I totally reached that stage.
I remember the first time I thought we were getting old: A friend suggested we meet for coffee at around 4pm. Fml.
Let me inflict upon you a sobering (pun intended) thought: Good! If you suffer from day- or week-long hangovers, it means you are not an alcoholic! I never, ever suffered hangovers after being drunk. All the time. For years.
That stopped 247 days ago tho.
It all works quite smoothly ; the install process is a breeze of a single .sh script to run directly from macos. The amount of software available for Arm64 is surprising, tho gamers will be disappointed there’s no Vulkan / Steam available yet.
That “Default” install is really just Fedora, shipped with KDE for it’s superior handling of fractional scaling. There’s the dnf package manager, flatpaks, the works.
I’m 80~90% of the time on the Asahi side of things on my device. Showstoppers today are sleep battery drain (50% a day) and pure “ooomph” - performance of an M2Pro chip is more akin to a 12th gen i7 than the same chip under macos. Rendering in kdenlive or blender is noticeably slower on Asahi. But it’s a huge reverse-engineering undertaking, and it will be getting better.
I have an app that blocks scam/spam so irl I answer 100% but technically I only pickup 50%
