OK you guys sure seem to take your pandering really seriously, so here you go: I’m sorry, this scene is peak writing and a major step for inclusivity. EA is a true champion of the LGBT community, and certainly not a bunch of soulless businessmen driven by profits and focus groups.

Did you read the article? I found it pretty convincing, as an example “non-binary” is not a word I expect to be said in a fantasy setting. The author also mentions a fantasy book where it’s done much more naturally.

If you read the article you’ll see that the author takes issue not with the inclusion itself, but the hamfisted way in which it is included. Pandering can be fine, but when it’s just checking boxes in a cringy, lazy way it’s not, and worse it becomes fodder for the gamergate type to rage about.

It was like 20 years ago, but their sidewinder brand was pretty great, as was the intellimouse.

The point is also to minimize potential damages caused by a bug in the software. Just this year there have been multiple data-destroying bugs in publicly released software. If the app runs as a server it’s usually trivial to have it run as a dedicated user, with just enough permissions to do its job.

It’s just good practice, even though the risks might be low why risk it at all?

I used Ubuntu at work a couple of years ago. When they announced the switch to snaps I didn’t really care, but when they switched Firefox to the snap version it had quite a few issues like really slow startup, inconsistent theming, and problems with some extensions. So I uninstalled the snap, installed the standard DEB and went on with my work.

But then the issues came back, and it took me some time to figure out they had replaced the actual DEB package with an unholy shim which just installed the snap. THAT really pissed me off, so when I got a new laptop I just installed Arch and my only regret was not doing it sooner.

LineageOS supports Chromecast with Android TV, haven’t tried it myself though.

Like it or not, ads are still the most popular way to pay for online content. I despise ads and I hope some kind of micro-payment solution catches on and offers an alternative, but until then there needs to be a way to reward people for their work, so ads and full-on subscriptions it is.

I have friends from high school who fell into the alt-right rabbit hole. They are obsessed with transgenderism. If you believe their depressing timelines, trans people are absolutely everywhere, behaving like total degenerates and grooming kids left and right. They send me an unhealthy amount of videos to prove their claims.

Meanwhile in the real world, I’ve encountered maybe 5 trans people that I recognized as such, and they were behaving normally, and not one tried to groom my kids! But if I tell them that they dismiss it on account of my woke mind virus / Trump derangement syndrome. They’re single, don’t have kids, and spend most of their time doomscrolling or watching the French version of Fox News, but they know better than me what’s going on in my kids’ school…

Yeah but if the EULA is different from one country to another, they’d want me to see the French version and not the US one.
