It helps to be more in tune with your surroundings outside. Many of us become disconnected from the land around us because of the pace of modern life: working 40+ hours, driving everywhere, and generally not having energy to go outside in our spare time. But even taking a short walk around the block each day will let you get in tune with your local climate. You’ll learn what the temperature is like when the first flowers start to bloom, when foods are in season, when the frost starts to come.

Unfortunately, this may also mean you start to notice how out of whack the cycles have become thanks to climate change.

I listened to an interview with Marie Kondo recently, and she herself seems to have renounced the method. When it was popular I definitely found some parts of it interesting, but others were too idiosyncratic to be useful. Ultimately, no one method is a panacea and everyone needs to find what works for them.

I usually right click the window in the app bar and choose the “stay on top” option. This issue only happens in Wayland, also. in X11 it stays on top as expected.

They deliver goods to big box stores, not to the kinds of stores one finds in a dense, walkable downtown core area. Many people do use Discord as a messaging app. I am really only using it for private messages when I am on data.

I only have two Signal contacts, and no group chats. Video is set to download only on WiFi, but I do need to be able to see images.

Photos use a decent amount of data regardless of what app you’re sending them by.

Because SMS is inherently feature-lite. But it’s free and unlimited, which is kind of the whole point of using it over a feature-rich app that uses data.

If I wanted a messaging app with advanced features, I wouldn’t be using the SMS app that came with my phone.

I’m really not. 75% of my data this month has been used by Signal and Discord.

Similar to Silence, a Signal fork that worked over SMS that I used to use. Glad to see the idea is still alive.

Not everyone has a large data plan. I am very aware of how much messaging taxes my data plan: the entirety of my data is already used by it.

I personally use QKSMS, which isn’t perfect, but it’s all I’ve been able to stand since Signal dropped SMS support.

This RCS stuff scares me a bit, because it sounds like it will function over a data connection and not be nearly as universal of a standard as SMS/MMS is. There are already a million such apps and standards if one wants to use data for messaging. Trying to sneak it on top of SMS is very annoying. If I use my SMS app, I want my messages to be sent as such. Getting a surprise data bill shouldn’t be a fear.

Unless you desperately need to free up room in your tiny SSD to make room for Baldur’s Gate 3. I recently used a tool like this to get rid of a bunch of old logs and things and managed to free up tens of gigabytes of precious space.

I highly recommend configuring qBittorrent to only connect to the VPN interface, so if your VPN is off it will simply not connect to the internet at all.

The trend of treating SERVICES like they need to bring a profit rather than simply provide an essential service is extremely frustrating. At this rate, even the mail service will be whittled away until everything is privatized.
