This ain’t boring. It’s terrifying.
It depends. I don’t feel forced to go on there because it has none of my friends. Obviously I’ll go once every few weeks to check out cool photography but I’m really not an active user there.
I was disappointed to learn there was no fediverse Tmbd/Imdb alternative. This looks like it has the potential to become that, among many things
Welcome lol
Wooden straws ftw
In America you have the freedom to drive a car (and are basically structurally prohobited from getting around any other way)
Sorry I’ll let someone more knowledgeable answer about metadata, but signal does allow you to set a username and hide your phone number (so people add you with username instead if f number)
I’ve honestly found signal better than matrix.
Matrix is just not there yet in terms of features UI etc and is less private than signal because it collects way more metadata and stuff. I know the idea of federation is cool, but Signal works better for the privacy aspect.
They also have stopped updating lemmy so they are running on really old software — which makes them incompatible with most apps!
They look 12
Dozens, I say!
lemmy.cafe, lemmy.zip, lemmy.one
Same — that’s why I tend to point people to a specific instance, instead of lemmy as a whole.
and in practice they are more MLM (maoism) or MLS (stalinism).
Yeah I think I elaborated too much. Let’s just keep recommending small instances — because the current centralisation on world sucks.
Yeah. join-lemmy.org unfortunately isn’t great because it often points to random semi dead instances.
Something like,
The instance you join doesn’t matter much — because you can access all content no matter what instance you are on — but it can be nice to be on an instance that shares you interests and values, because you will have to conform to the rules of that instance. Think of it like your clan — it’s like your email being yourname@yourworkplace — you can still email everyone else and see their emails, but it signals something about you, and it has different rules.
Here are a couple options:
General Purpose:
Interests:
Diversity:
Regions/Langauges:
Ideology:
Please copypaste my comment and add instances / improve it
Edit different versions for different instances
