Democrats are ready and willing to do anything other then deliver the change Obama promised so many years ago.
Only the most giga depresso life will do for our future generations
Dick riding dick Cheney might have something to do with it. Fucking embarrassing.
State level electoral reform will allow a bigger spectrum of political parties to represent those unengaged voters. It will also allow those voters to make the democrats their backup pick if their preference didn’t win.
More people represented means more voters. More voters means more democratic votes. Why is the democratic party saying no to these easy votes?
Getting healthy is a personal journey. What works for some will not work for others. I hope you find your way.
As for how I quit tobacco cold turkey:
Every day, I would delay the first cigarette as long as I could. There was no limits to my smoking. There was no rules. Just me doing my best. No putting myself down for sparking one up, no goals to disappoint myself by missing.
Slowly over the course of months I got later and later in the day on average. Till one day I forgot to have one. Did I have a smoke the next day? You bet I did.
But eventually I made it a couple days. Then once I got past a couple days I tried to push for a week. Once you get past two weeks the cravings really dropped. It eventually become a “when I drink” thing. And then I abstained from alcohol to help that along.
I still drink, but I don’t smoke (tobacco). It’s been years since I actively smoked, although two years ago I did slip up when i was drunk tubing down a river and bummed like 5 cig from a friend who had a couple packs. It was a really good day. Next day, I didn’t want to keep smoking. I felt really strong to be able to smoke some cigs and just drop it. Haven’t smoked (tobacco) since then.
Sounds familiar
"The son of the worker, on entering life, finds no field which he may till, no machine which he may tend, no mine in which he may dig, without accepting to leave a great part of what he will produce to a master. He must sell his labour for a scant and uncertain wage. His father and his grandfather have toiled to drain this field, to build this mill, to perfect this machine. They gave to the work the full measure of their strength, and what more could they give? But their heir comes into the world poorer than the lowest savage. If he obtains leave to till the fields, it is on condition of surrendering a quarter of the produce to his master, and another quarter to the government and the middlemen. And this tax, levied upon him by the State, the capitalist, the lord of the manor, and the middleman, is always increasing; it rarely leaves him the power to improve his system of culture. If he turns to industry, he is allowed to work–though not always even that --only on condition that he yield a half or two-thirds of the product to him whom the land recognizes as the owner of the machine.
We cry shame on the feudal baron who forbade the peasant to turn a clod of earth unless he surrendered to his lord a fourth of his crop. We call those the barbarous times. But if the forms have changed, the relations have remained the same, and the worker is forced, under the name of free contract, to accept feudal obligations. For, turn where he will, he can find no better conditions. Everything has become private property, and he must accept, or die of hunger."
Feudalism was status quo in most of the world since the dawn of civilization and it was replaced in many parts of the world.
Pretty sure most of that is just him advocating for mutual aid/defense networks at the local level should the rule of law (lol) break down
Filters could be made biodegradable. Batteries? Probably but not in our lifetime.
My problem with Ebikes is the number of regular bikes stolen. No way I want to haul a ebike up and down my basement stairs a couple times a day.
The basement has been good to me to.
If you’re so concerned about 3rd parties being a spoiler, then you must work towards replacing First-past-the-post voting in your state.
With a more representative electoral system, people would be free to vote for those they feel best represent them, with their vote still being counted against the republicans.
State level electoral reform is possible, some states have already done away with FPTP voting, and others are voting on it!
Given how this structural flaw in our voting system can be repaired, and your high level of concern of the spoiler effect, I invite you to my asklemmy post to discuss your new commitment to replacing FPTP voting in your state after the election.
Like what happened after the last presidential election?
You need to block users. Users like me! I am glad you are using lemmy your way. Peace.
Hey, remember when the liberal party of Canada ran and won on electoral reform? And then just went “nah bro” and didn’t get anything done about it?
Oopsie daisy gee golly isnt governing hard? Not that you would know because youre not in their club and you will never get a chance to govern.
Looks like now you have to vote for the liberals again or yous gets the conservatives again. Ahhh shucks ding dang it. What a conundrum. Quite the pickle ain’t it?
Sound familiar?
We don’t have to wait for Republicans to want to become socialists (what the absolute fuck is this line of thinking?). We can have more then two viable political parties with a more representative electoral system like STAR voting.
How we.vote is.controlled.at the state level as well, so we don’t need a miracle to pass in congress to get these changes. In fact, some states have already passed legislation that replaced First Past The Post voting. Others are voting on it in referendums soon to!
So it’s possible, gets more people involved in the political process, and gets more votes for democrats.
we just need convince the DNC that democracy is a good thing.

Did you know that with more representative voting systems, people would be free to vote for whomsoever they wish, secure in the knowledge their vote would still be casted against those they don’t want in office?
I invite you to my asklemmy post to discuss your recent commitment to replacing First Past The Post voting in your state so people can vote freely.
With electoral reform, we could have more then two artificially limited options. We could have competition in our elections. We could be free…
I’d rather eat a frozen pizza and drink beer in the basement for 1/6th the price.
