    If only that would be the worst. Someone over at M$ had the glorious idea to set up a different admin center for every fucking thing. Sometimes they interconnect, sometimes you can edit user in several admin centers, some things you can only edit in a particular one. You’re searching for specific settings over and over. And if that dumpster fire of bullshittery isn’t enough they randomly change the naming of everything or the position of menus without any apparent reason. So the knowledge you gained where certain settings goes to waste and you have to start all over again. Damn you Microsoft. If I’ll ever find out who’s responsible for that shit I’ll cut your head off and shit down your neck.

    Edit: Just take a look at msportals.io to see how bad it has gotten. For my daily business I need several of M365 and Azure IT Admin portals. I hate it. I fucking hate it.

  • Yeah I tinkered around with it a bit yesterday. There are some tips in the hyprland wiki, talking about adding nvidia specific modules in mkinicpio that might help. Problem is that, seemingly by default, it’s using dracut. Right now that whole construct is going a bit over my head tbh.

    I also tried adding those custom rules:

    windowrulev2 = fullscreen,class:^steam_app\d+$

    windowrulev2 = monitor DP-3,class:^steam_app_\d+$

    windowrulev2 = workspace 10,class:^steam_app_\d+$

    workspace = 10, border:false, rounding:false

    But they don’t seem to work

  • I think I didn’t buy a Windows license ever. Got Win 7 free from my college and always could upgrade for free to the next version. I never used MS Office, mostly did use the Google suite. Games were the only thing that kept me, especially since I got more privacy continuous over the past few years.

    I’m currently dual booting Win 11 and Linux mint as a test phase. Actually just running windows for the proprietary phone client I need for work. Otherwise I’m newly exclusively using LM right now. Though I might make the switch to EndeavourOS for it’s rolling release approach and AUR.

    Only thing I really hate is that there are some proprietary software like ICUE, L-Connect a proper scanning software for my printer including OCR (there is a version for Linux but it doesn’t include OCR) or shitty driver support for my graphics card. But none of those are issues coming from Linux itself but rather from the lack of support from the developers. Also, I love DLSS and Ray tracing but seriously… fuck Nvidia.

  • I work in IT so you might think I might be more into the topic and thus more careful with my data. There are a lot of colleagues of mine that don’t care one bit. Some even jokingly call me paranoid.

    Sure, I use GrapheneOS, a de-googled Android OS, made the switch from Gmail to Tuta (formerly tutanota), a privacy ans security focused mail provider and use my own domain for mailing.

    Then there are some other measurements in place like AdGuard and Pihole to block ads and trackers. I think that’s the bare minimum, especially if you’re working in IT. It doesn’t cost much, the setup is straight forward and the benefits are huge. I haven’t had any ads in my network for years.

    I’m currently switching from windows to Linux as daily driver. There are some issues with getting some games to run, but as soon as they do I’m switching for good.

    There are some easy thing one can do, even without any expertise in IT. There are even things you can do that aren’t finicky (like linux troubleshooting). People are just way to comfortable.

    Maybe they should watch the documentary about Edward Snowden, Citizenfour. That might change their mind.

  • The free Internet if you give use your data is already a thing. I saw an ad in germany where you get unlimited free internet access (can’t remember if it was a data plan for phones or cable / fibre service) if you use their “payment partner” for your usual payments like rent, loans and salary. So they basically can see your daily payments and will use and sell this data im exchange for “free” Internet access.

    The company and its investors and corporation lead to a weird network of people and a corp in dubai. It’s all quite shady really.
