I agree that the tech isn’t there, but unless we figure out some new physics it’s going to be impossible to put enough battery, computing power, and cooling capacity in something the size of sunglasses. So the tech for VR like we really want is at least 20 years away, if not more.

I’ve worked for a couple startups and you’re absolutely right. If you make a profit you pay taxes on that money, so startups like to spend most of the money they bring in. They also want to show revenue growth, since that’s what investors like to see. You grow revenue by getting more paying customers. And you do that by doing what your customers want.
When you go public, your goal is to increase shareholder value. So you do this by reducing costs and finding ways to wring customers out of revenue. You find ways to nickle and dime customers out of revenue so much you develop an entire branch of law devoted to you suing your customers
There’s a lot of fun cryptids in that region. Apart from the Pennsylvania White Bigfoot, there’s the snallygaster and the dewayo. I think the former is because there’s a lot of herons in the area, and the latter is your standard “omg a weird bear” cryptid.

I really love being alone so it worked great for me. I hardly left my property and had so much upkeep to perform that I got in great shape.

When I lived in the boonies I had a house like that. It was on a windy mountain road that was rarely traveled except on Sundays when people would drive their classic cars around. I could sit there with a beer after mowing my lawn and have my own private parade, and walk the couple miles into town no problem.
For work I just had to walk down the hall because shipping my brain through meatspace to push buttons in a different place is stupid.
A few years ago I moved from the mountains to the suburbs and I hate it and can’t wait to get back.
