Which is what happens in Charles Stross’ “Quantum of Nightmares”. Except it involves a good deal of Blood Magic, meatgrinders, zentai suits and abuse of the workfare system. It seems the author was very angry when he wrote it.
The real impact of the 9/11 attacks: There is direct line from shock and confusion to nationalistic rhetoric and “'OOORAH!”- patriotism to the rise of the Tea Party, the growing influence of the Evangelicals up to the emergence of Trumpism and Qanon.
I feel the author also deserves some credit. So: Fuck Steve Barclay.
Blindsight is exquisitely crafted. It has layers like an onion.
“Space Vampires” is an infinitely better hook than my “It’s about…uh…conciousness…and stuff.” But I hate to tell you that Blindsight isn’t any lighter on new radical ideas than 3BP. For the sequel I had to read an AMA with Watts just to get the gist of it. (Three “gods” duking it out in a game of 5D chess with different and evolving goals for each participant through the eyes of a mortal.)
