Farming locally doesn’t mean use a city building, it means use a field thats kinda in the same region, not at the other end of the world. And of course that’s more sustainable. The shorter the transport routes are, the better.

We gave up on reusing glass bottles in large part because they were not sanitary. Every boomer has stories of finding cigarette butts in their soda and beer.
I live in a county that almost religiously reuses glass bottles and have never heard nor experienced such a story. Seems like someone figured out how to sanitize them.
No what I’m saying is maybe you are sensitive (for whatever reason - from a exceptional metabolism to placebo, over other sensitivities/allergies, complex psychological effects, etc everything is possible) but it’s certainly not because glutamate is a neurotransmitter.
Neurotransmitters and the stuff in our bloodstreams (nutrients, hormones and so on) are two very different systems. Think of it as a river and a power grid. We all have this massive stream of different molecules in our bodies, and we have an elaborate information system made from electric and chemical signaling, like cables and batteries, working right beside it. The batteries might happen to utilize the same molecules that swim around in the river, but they still have nothing to do with each other. The river doesn’t touch the batteries, and your body very carefully decides which part it takes out of the water and into the batteries. Highly simplified of course, but that’s kinda how you can imagine why one doesn’t hurt the other.
To add:
For severe problems it’s probably always wise to check with a physician, or if there’s specific stuff in your head that keeps you awake to consider telling a friend or therapist about it. To distance yourself from your thoughts is something everybody can learn and it can be tremendously helpful with stuff like that.
Even though you’re right in that glutamate is a neurotransmitter, eating it doesn’t affect our brain chemistry at all. It can’t pass the blood-brain-barrier. Which is relieving since basically every food group contains it and flooding our brain with that would lead to violent epileptic seizures and certain death. Not insomnia.
And melatonin isn’t a neurotransmitter but a hormone.
So maybe you do in fact sleep better when avoiding specific food groups in the evening, but your explanation certainly isn’t correct.
Just putting this out there since glutamate is such a highly misunderstood molecule surrounded by many misconceptions, this one being a very common one.
More than 20% use tires.
But I guess if the most important thing for ya all is to be of the hook personally, sure, fixating on the question of individual responsibility becomes the most important part and averages are just a distraction to that (because they say nothing about the individual). To me that wasn’t the relevant takeaway from the article. Our society must fundamentally change, or we will destroy ourselves. And for that it doesn’t matter at all how much microplastic you personally produce, but how much we all create - on average.
Averages aren’t a personal attack on you. They say nothing about the individual at all. Getting offended by that is simply a misunderstanding.
That’s like saying"man, humanity really should stop killing the planet" and you angrily replying: “what the fuck are you accusing me of?”
You’re not personally addressed by averages about car tires, drug mules etc. at all. It’s a waste of time to get irritated overt this.
But that’s literally how averages work.
The article obviously tries to highlight a systemic problem. Do we really need to put that much emphasis on avoiding any feeling of individual responsibility to the point where that’s no longer possible?
Nobody reading this puts the blame on someone in rural Tanzania. It’s a complete non-issue and definitely not what we should be focusing on coming from this very important article.
That’s honestly good to know, thanks!
Although it is kind of telling that in order to use their launcher without getting a stroke your best bet is an alternative launcher. Still, I’m going to have a look at Heroic. Would be a shame to never touch all those free games just because Epic sucks so much.
You can change the directory manually for every single install. But a default install path for your games - nope.
Well the launcher can hardly get any worse.
Today I found out there’s no way to change the default install location. And I learned this just today because I so rarely use it. Why is this launcher such a mess. It’s seriously like they’re not even trying.
I mean what’s more important to you, being able drop the info about time zones when scheduling international meetings, or preserving humanities ability to communicate time respectively to the actual time of day?
I’ve lived in three countries so far and never actually had trouble scheduling anything. The concept of time of day on the other hand is pretty prevalent in my daily life.
Ahem. Oops.
But in a way that’s a good example for what I meant. You and me communicate time both in reference to the time of day, not a virtual time of the planet that means something else to everyone depending on location, and you easily could spot my mistake.
So let’s just say I did that on purpose.
Communication about times would get so much easier, communication about schedules would get so much easier.
Except that it wouldn’t. It would make communication about time a culture sensitive topic. Sure, the exact time of day in relation to the position of the sun might get lost with our current system, but if someone tells you “I’ve slept til 12am” at least you know it was somewhat around noon. Under your new system you’d always have to consider where someone lives.
It’s impossible to avoid every possible trauma trigger when making a movie. The fact that some people might seriously be unable to watch sex scenes shouldn’t mean we cannot make them at all. If sex is an absolute red flag for you in movies, watch PG-13.
Other example: My mom doesn’t like violence in movies. (Doesn’t mind sex scenes btw.) And that just means she can’t (and doesn’t want to) watch most recently produced shows. And that’s just how it is.
Obviously there’s a market for movies with sex scenes in them, or Hollywood wouldn’t make them. You will just have to live with the fact that your in the minority here.
On the other hand, watching porns makes either make people horny or uncomfortable depending on their situation.
For teenagers maybe. Most adults can regulate their emotions enough to handle it. I mean, if you watch movies with your mother on a regular basis just laugh akwardly over all the scenes she doesn’t want you to see and that’s it. With anyone else, why does it bother you if they’re watching with a smirk? It’s not like people break out into orgies watching a small sex scene.
I think what’s happening with people getting overly irritated with sex scenes in movies is, in last consequence, the habit of puritan self-censorship. “Oh, we shouldn’t watch that and be aroused by it, that’s so indicent. I will be embarrassed if someone catches me doing such a shameful thing.”
Once you accept how normal and beautiful human sexuality is, sex scenes become just that - normal. A realistic part of the stories we like to be told.
Most action scenes could be skipped aswell with a black screen and showing the defeated party dead or incapitated on the floor afterwards.
Most landscape shots, portrait close-ups, or otherwise non-verbal scenes could be skipped entirely.
Thinking about it - most movies could be completely omitted by just telling the audience the end result with a few lines of text on screen.
Let people enjoy things. Just because you don’t care for sex scenes says nothing about them being invalid or unnecessary for other people.
Or I’ll just watch a good movie with a well made sex scene. Why does it bother you if others enjoy that?
Maybe it’s different on other instances, but here on feddit a report gets “closed” as soon as someone resolves it. Doesn’t matter who did it. So if a comment on my community gets reported both I and the admin see that, and depending on who’s faster one of us can either delete the reported content or simply mark it as read. In both cases it’s no longer pending. The reports work like an inbox, so if I really wanted to I could double check resolved reports and delete them manually afterwards. Never saw the need to do that though. Im sure the other way around is possible as well.
