I’m sorry, what is the problem here exactly? Are there default pinned app from their partners (I think I see Disney+) in the start menu, because I certainly don’t see any advertisement banners.

FWIW I’m on Windows 11 and have the latest update installed (just checked, nothing new there, but I recall installing one a day or two ago), and I’m happy to report it did not make any changes to the apps I had pinned. All available space was already taken up by my own pins so that might have something to do with it, but I definitely don’t feel like they’ve been trying to push something on me that I didn’t ask for.

As far as Edge goes, I don’t really care what they do to that because I simply do not use it.

I have a five year old MBP here with 16 gigs of RAM and it runs the latest version of macOS. I can run multiple web browsers with dozens of open tabs, VS Code, an LLM, and a video editing app on it, all simultaneously, without breaking a sweat.

IDK what Apple’s secret sauce is but their shit just works better than everyone else’s, that’s a fact.

I do also have a 2019 MacBook Pro running Ventura (for when I want to get some work done) and I don’t really notice much of a difference TBH.

That said, I haven’t really benchmarked it in any meaningful or reproducible way and I mainly use the Windows laptop for gaming, so I rarely have more than a few apps open at any given time (basically browser, chat, Steam + whatever other game launcher <publisher X> is forcing me to use to run their shit). Meanwhile, on my MacBook, I tend to have a lot more apps running simultaneously and it still works smoothly despite only having 16 gigs of RAM so I guess MacOS still wins?

Honestly I don’t really care, as long as Windows runs my games and MacOS runs my other stuff, I’m good.

My midrange gaming laptop which I bought a year and a half ago came with it preinstalled and it’s nowhere near this guy’s specs but I honestly have not had any problems either, and the whole rig cost me slightly more than his CPU alone.

Finally, where exactly do you see any Nazi flags? All I can see is a red, white, and black livery, which ARE the colors that the Nazis used, but not in that arrangement. There are no swastikas anywhere (as far as I can see), so it seems as if this rather the flag of the German Empire, which also used the same colors, but predates the Nazis by a good 60 years.

Yes, that’s what I was saying, that I enjoyed playing those games on Switch that are remakes of older games because they generally have both the gameplay mechanics that made the old games great and the graphics to please the modern sense of aesthetics.

I think a lot of the draw honestly comes from re-living old memories people have around playing these games (like staying up late in order to beat that one boss in Super Mario or whatever), which obviously is difficult if you never did so in the past.

To a certain extent, yes, these games ARE a chore (all games are in a way - the point is almost always having to practice in order to get good enough to beat them). A well designed game just keeps your hooked with its storytelling and well timed rewards long enough not to toss it aside in frustration.

But if it gets too frustrating because the payout just doesn’t seem to be there, I’d say don’t try to force it. Get a Switch and play the modern version of the classics, but with newer, fancier graphics, maybe that helps.

I’ve been on a bit of a retro gaming bender recently and downloaded a bunch of Nintendo emulators and ROMs, but I found that unless I have specific memories around a certain game, it was a little difficult to enjoy them. Also, perhaps I’m spoiled by all those modern PC games I’ve played.

Then I tried some Switch games, and I gotta say, they honestly struck a great balance between visual effects and gameplay. Lots of games there that are basically just remakes of decades old classics, but with high res 3D graphics and modern effects. Seriously considering buying one now.
