My main problem with DDG is that it doesn’t show the dates of results. A lot of the time, I need to know that to get the information I need. I used it for a couple of years, but I was constantly forced to go back to Google or Bing to get the information I needed.

I found Kagi earlier this year and tried it out, and it’s as close to perfect as you can get, IMO. I really can’t recommend it enough. It’s like being back to “the before times” when Google was king, with the addition of many other features. It’s a paid service, and I’m more than happy to do so for something like this. No tracking, a ton of features, very well designed, and results that never fail. I’ve shared my account with family and friends, and everyone has mentioned how good it is after trying it.

Sorry if it feels like I’m a shill for it, I’m just super happy with it and really feel like everyone deserves to know about it.

  • I haven’t used or know much about the onedrive cloud desktop, but would mega work for you? I use mega for all my cloud storage with auto syncing, and you can choose whatever folders you want to be synced. Free is 20 GB, and what I use is 2 TB of storage and 2 TB of monthly transfer for $10/month. They use use zero-knowledge encryption. Here is more info, including their security whitepaper if that’s of interest: https://mega.io/security
I’ve used it for close to 10 years now and am very happy with it, never had any issues.

Sorry if that isn’t what you’re looking for, but hope it’s right!

  • Nah, you vastly overestimate the percentage of people of all ages that even care about anything that goes on like the protest. There are still a lot of people there, but it’s nice that most of the “good” (not sure about the right word here, I think you get my meaning though) people left, and many came here.

IMO, Lemmy has gotten worse since a few months back, though. Many of the most irritating things of reddit have become more and more common. Misspellings, in titles especially, to a point where it’s surely done on purpose for more “interraction”, shitty spam, way to many bots, etc.

  • Well written on both parts, and it’s often a combination of both. When you have mental health issues, it can also be harder to get stuff to make a shower or anything else nicer. Be it issues doing laundry, so you don’t have completely clean towels and/or fresh clothes to put on afterwards, or having shampoo, conditioner, etc.
I often get stuck because I haven’t showered, haven’t been able to force myself to do laundry, and/or forgot to buy products. Then you really don’t want to leave your home because you get anxiety over others seeing or smelling you, so you’re just stuck with that anxiety for days until you manage to do anything about it.

  • As others have pointed out, the original article is from 2012, and even with similar rulings in EU countries more recently, it will take years before we see any result of this.

But I think the ultimate answer to your question here is: yes, that would become a thing.

But there is so much to this that makes it hard to predict how good it would be. Who decides the price? What rules will there be on when and how you can resell?
