Somewhere in Rousseau’s “Confessions” there’s a bunch about him becoming disillusioned by the church as a child because of sexual abuse, and the head priest tells him “that’s how it’s always been”. That was written in 1769!

I just picked up a copy, thinking I might read it for the third time. My dad got me into it when I was like 12, then I reread it ten years ago or so.
I don’t often read classic sf, but this book is really great, IMO.
Really enjoyed Derek Künsken’s stuff lately when it comes to modern sci Fi.
