  • Think it’s the trap that if you continue with the hobby, all the starter gear is useless and all the money could have been spent on better equipment.

I paint miniatures. Not as often it as much as I would like to because of dividing my time between work, two year old and chores, but I have had the hobby for the last six years. I have yet to purchase an airbrush, and I can get a perfectly decent starter set for lets say 20 USD. But I can also get a better set with high end compressor, better paint gun.for 60 USD. I know that if I keep getting better at using the airbrush I will eventually get the high end stuff, why not “save” money and get it right away.

  • I specifically did not specialize in analytical chemistry because of this. It’s relatively easy to get a job, but it’s mind numbingly boring to do the same tests over and over and over.

I did physical chemistry. No jobs but at least no one knows what the fuck you can do.

(Incidentally I managed to get a job with energetic materials where my education is occasionally relevant)

  • Norwegian here. I quit reddit and joined Lemmy after the API debacle. Installed mint because of W11. (A big factor was how Steam and proton enables me to play games)

Can’t say either Lemmy or Linux has gotten any media attention in the big news sources as far as I can see.

I am the only one in my circle of friends that quit Reddit (most follow the various 40k reddits, and they have no replacement in federated options)

  • Norwegian here. Not that often I think of India tbh, but here is a short bullet point list

    • Massive overpopulation
    • Rich and dirt poor at the same time
    • Castes
    • Politically governed by nationalists
    • Rape stories
    • Massive market thats the only reason we care about India
    • Good tech industry (moon landing?)
    • Don’t go to Kashmir
    • Holi
    • Bollywood
    • “Indian” food (know that some protein in some sauce with nan and rice is not all an entire subcontinent can offer)

Last show I saw about India was that James May show on Amazon
