We called them “luggables”. They’re expensive, but having a server in a box with a monitor was worth it when you could lug it to a customer site and give a live demo of your server stuff. We were doing telephony stuff and you could put a $5000 dialogic pcie card in it and demonstrate call handling live. We can do that with software on a standard issue laptop these days, but the luggable helped seal the deal back in 2005.
The US average falls in the middle of the list of states, yes. This is a chart of per capita rates.
Their game is just to try to make the ISPs liable; they don’t actually want it enforced. In fact, failure to enforce is the feature. They paint the ISP as complicit in the piracy then sue the ISP for hundreds of millions in damages hoping for a no-fault settlement. That’s a much better revenue stream than suing someone for 10k who can’t pay it.

I never said that. Sounds like you’re projecting.
Destin works for defense contractors and he’s never been shy about his interest and involvement in weaponry. He has a bible quote at the end of his videos. I seriously doubt I would agree with him about pretty much any politics and definitely not his personal beliefs, but he keeps his channel pretty strongly focused on the episode’s subject without bringing his personal views into it. He seems to do the channel because he likes geeking out about nerdy stuff and wants to share that love with others.
I personally feel that the knowledge he’s sharing is more important than knowing we probably disagree on some things. If he starts including prayer time or turns his channel into military porn, I’m out. But his channel is a positive influence for now, IMO.
Rober is different. He acts like cool science bro that worked for NASA and wants you to think he’s Bill Nye or something. But he seems to be doing it for views and to push the stuff he’s selling. He doesn’t seem genuine. He’s at risk of turning into a prank bro channel if his quality goes downhill.
Do you also support “just say no to drugs” and abstinence only sex ed? Screens, as a concept, are not literally the devil. It’s unmonitored and unlimited screen time that’s the issue.
E: Damn y’all are dense. “Just say no” was a failed messaging campaign from the war on drugs. The alternative isn’t “say yes to drugs”; it’s actual education about drugs so you know what they are and the actual dangers they can pose. The “just say no” campaign taught that weed was a “gateway drug” and that everyone that tries the devil’s lettuce will start using cocaine, amphetamines, and there’s a 100% chance you’ll become a homeless junkie and die of an overdose. It was about as ignorant as you can get.
There’s enough DNA registered to find almost literally anyone in the US that way now. It’s how they caught the golden state killer. A partial DNA match will narrow down 350,000,000 people to less than 100. Then it’s just a matter of gettin’ a box of jelly donuts and gettin’ down to some good old fashioned police work with a game of Guess Who.
If you’re related to anyone that has done a DNA test ever, you’re already in the system.
A doctor of musical theory is still entitled Dr.
I usually go by “fuck you”. Like someone yells out of their cube “who’s goddamn code is this?!?! Ah, fuck you”

I don’t have an epic account, never will. They’re not operating in good faith; they’re pushing the “launcher exclusive” release model, which only hurts consumers. If they match Steam’s features and drop exclusivity deals and prove it’s not a short-term trick, I’d consider buying from them.
The point would be a lot more impactful if they didn’t make up a story to support their position.
They’re bots
We solve that problem using naming conventions. Branch names must start with the issue key (we use Jira). You don’t do anything in that branch that’s not part of that issue. If you do, you must prefix the commit message with the issue key that it goes with. The commit itself identifies what changed. The Jira issue provides all the backstory and links to any supporting materials (design docs, support tickets, etc). I have to do a lot of git archeology in my role, and this scheme regularly allows me to figure out why a code change was made years ago without ever talking to anyone.
Despite incessant reassurance from recruiting that they have the best market data and we’re paying above average, I have reasons to suspect that’s not the truth. One of them being we’re hemorrhaging mid-grade talent and focusing on hiring backfills in Ireland and Hungary for much lower salaries. It almost seems like they’re trying to offshore the dev group via attrition to work around having to do layoffs…
As someone in the US, 40 hours per week is the minimum. Recognition for “being a hard worker” has required 60+ hours at some places I’ve worked. This is for a fixed salary and no overtime pay, mind you. Then you’re usually on an on call rotation every few weeks where you may have to work off-hours if something comes up. That’s additional unpaid hours. My current company pays $80,000 USD for new college grad software developers.
US holidays are 8-10 days, and junior devs usually start with 5-10 days of vacation. Health insurance costs at least several hundred a month (your employer also pays about 3x more than you towards your insurance premium as a benefit).
Woah, dial it it back a bit. We’re not talking about racial discrimination or violence. OP said people were talking behind their backs and provided no additional details. If you file a HR complaint just because you saw someone whispering while looking at you, you’re 100% a narc. If you file a racial discrimination lawsuit because you’re a minority and the company isn’t firing people you don’t like, you’re the worst kind of person. If there’s more to the story, OP didn’t share it.
I mean, it’s kind of like intentionally pulling out in front of someone running a red light. Yes, they were in the wrong. But you’re going to get fucked regardless. Sometimes you can simply choose to avoid the problem because criminals gonna crime.
