They get you hooked by being a Victorian/Eduardian era fantasy survival with vastly different worlds that are procedurally effected by cards/traits. After you craft the first new gear the suit and pants are replaced by rags and furs, never to return until the super grindy late game. The game is just like every other procedurally generated open world survival and not even the art style sticks around. It becomes just another crafting game in a forest/desert/winter world.
