The National Coalition Against Censorship and PEN America are urging IU to reinstate Samia Halaby’s exhibition.
Someone explain to me how this was censorship and not about worries (legit or not) about safety regarding political/war?
How does it have anything to do with safety? It’s an art exhibition by an 87 year old artist that’s been in the plans for over 3 years.
The official for the school claimed it was I guess?
The article insist it was because the artist was palestinian? Who cares? An artist is an artist, unless their work intending to be presented was highly political, right?
If the artist was as Israeli, there would just be a different group of people screaming about the same thing, right?
Maybe the university, or for that matter, every organization should cancel every event ever that could have two opposing thoughts or sides in fear that there will be a group out there that will be offended?
At this point, there’s just as much tyranny of inclusiveness than exclusiveness in some cases, or at least it feels like it.
